This is a reproduction of the original watercolor art Paula L Bowen painted for series of one-off 4.5”x3.5” and 7”x 5” greeting cards in the mid-80s.
In November 2000 thru September 2001, Conrad’s business, 1to1Greetings, mailed 10,000 personalized birthday cards a month to RC Willey customers. RC Willey is a major regional home furnishing retailer headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah, now owned by Berkshire Hathaway. The front panel of each card included Paula’s watercolor painting “Floral Basket” and were personalized with the customer’s name and birthdate – a new and exciting printing technology at the time. The 7”x5” cards included a FREE $50 gift certificate which was mailed to each customer just before their birthday. The marketing campaign was a great success and the regular monthly order was a dream come true for Conrad’s fledgling greeting card company. In 10-months, gross sales were $125,000 for this one image. Unfortunately, the Twin Towers in New York City came crashing down on September 11, 2001 and changed the world for ever. RC Willey cancelled all future orders in October and never ordered personalized cards again from 1to1Greetings. Such is life and business!
