Wm Conrad Bowen painted this watercolor in a bound 5.25” x 3.5” Tumuarta Watercolor sketchpad he carries regularly in his cargo shorts pocket so he can start painting anywhere on the spot.
Conrad & Paula took a couple of their grandkids to This is the place Monument on Labor Day. After ice cream cones, they walked a bit east and sat in the grass under a shade tree. It was about 3:40. and just to the north of them was the Nils and Josephine Anderson home. It looked pretty cool, so Conrad pulled out his watercolor sketchpad and started to work. The kids got restless, so Paula took them on another train ride. He kept painting. At 5:05PM someone dropped by and said the park closed at 5 and Conrad had to gather up his stuff and leave. The first image is how far along Conrad got sitting on the grass. He finished it early Tuesday morning in his studio.
